Ex"Splore"ing Silicon Beach
For those of you who haven't heard, I have moved into a new role.
I am proud to announce that I am a Technical Recruiter. I work primarily in executive search (headhunting) for tech companies that seek high level sales and pre-sales individuals.
Not only does this role utilize my sales and recruiting skills, I get to work in an industry that I am very intrigued by while doing what I love, networking. My company promotes domain expertise, but also thrives in really getting to know their niche markets and individuals in it. In other words, I get to really dive deep in what I do.
A few weeks ago, my roommate made me aware of a new mobile application, Splore App. It is an application that
allows you to post art like Flickr or Instagram but you also get to explore the newest and most innovated pieces by artists from all around, similar to a Reddit.
Coincidentally, they were located in Venice Beach, CA and had a open launch party not far from my apartment. That night I set out on a mission to meet and learn as much as I could while basking in the laid-back Venice vibe.
I was greeted by ecstatic people who knew how to have fun. After a few drinks at the open bar, I caught myself laughing over donuts with artists who's paintings could replace my monthly rent.
This was the LA dream right? Partying with the rich and famous?
Not only did I brush up my fine art skills while meeting artists from all over, but I also ended up talking about how hard it was for tech companies to hire a talented UI/UX engineer these days with the app's co-founder. Keep in mind, at this time, I had just learned the difference between SQL and NoSQL a few days before due to my new job but I was able to talk about front end and back end engineering as if I coded my whole life.
I walked away that night with a full belly, purse full of free gear, new friends, and a wealth full of knowledge. I am blessed to be working in such an innovative space and living in one of the busiest tech hubs in the world.
I strive to constantly let those around me teach me more and hopefully I can share my knowledge of the industry.
If you're looking to make a career change, need help hiring people, or simply want to network, let me know! I'm always seeking to educate and be educated.
